Norwegian Exchange Students Garden Route Tour
Helderberg International School’s Nowegian Exchange students Mari, Karoline, Helene, Selma and Alma had the most amazing tour through the Garden Route during the school holidays, led by OnRouteAfrica Tours with Peter and Liesl Roos as hosts and leading guides.
On the first day they travelled from Somerset West to Oudtshoorn and enjoyed a visit to Barrydale. In Outshoorn they visited the Ostrich Safari Farm as well as the Cango Caves which was a highlight to all. On Day 2 they travelled to Sedgefield where they canoed on the Touw River and hiked along the upper reaches of the Touw River to the waterfall. Everyone loved the natural landscape, bird life and the many photographic opportunities. After quick visit to Buffels Bay for ice creams, they headed off to Myoli beach at Sedgefield which was another was highlight. The pristine beach itself, the beautiful sunsets, as well as the location of the Pili-Pili guesthouse on the beach, was a winner. Dinner was a SA braai (incl mieliepap & tomato relish) server by the restaurant.
On Day 3 the group moved onto the Tsitsikamma – Wilderness after they has enjoyed breakfast at the Wild Oats market in Sedgefield. The students also enjoyed the neighbouring Mosaic market with its huge variety of locally produced arts & crafts. They visited the Elephant Sanctuary and after a delicious light lunch at The Peppermill restaurant, continued the journey on to Storms River Mouth (Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve) where they went on a hike including traversing the suspension bridge. Milkshakes at Marilyn’s 60’s Diner after the hike was the ‘cherry on the cake’.
Just before sunset, they arrived at Beach House Backpackers in Wilderness which is a vibrant and vibey place where they enjoyed great pizzas for dinner and a view over the ocean that is simply precious. Day 4 arrived all to soon and time to head back to Somerset West. After an early breakfast, they group departed for Mossel Bay, with its rich history and interesting Maritime museum, as well as its spectacular coastline. The students also visited to the Garden Route Game Lodge (close to Albertinia), where they embarked on a 2-hour safari and enjoyed great sightings of elephant, rhino, giraffe, kudu, etc. After a light lunch they departed for Somerset West.
WOW what a trip up! It really sounds like they had an amazing time.
